List of Sailboats that you can BEACH...

All---- I have sailed smaller sail boats 30' and below--- we are researching sailboats for our next purchase-- and one thing we want is the ability to beach it on sandy shores. Besides the Shannon Shoal Sailer + Southerly Sailboats--- what other sailboats are out there that you can beach vertically?

Thank you in advance for any + all replies...

Thomas & Kelly

I guess you are now going above 30'..........

Ovni - French built aluminium centreboarders.

I can't remember the names, but I have seen the odd (modern) french yacht sit upright (winged keel and dual rudders!).

Let me add the following monohulls over 30 ft: Seaward 32,44, Holby Clearwater 35, some Jeanneau models, some top end Euro boats (e.g. the Aluminum Atlantics from Holland), and a whole bunch of bilge keelers that nobody makes anymore.

Wow, somebody knows the Atlantics from Holland

I would keep it with an Ovni though; available in every size so also smaller ones and they go anywhere without much trouble if at all

Re: List of Sailboats that you can BEACH...

Another vote for the Ovni. When we were in Hawaii years ago Jimmy Cornell berthed behind us and I had an opportunity to get a real good tour of the boat as well as a good visit. I was really impressed by those boats and I love aluminum. The keel retracts and the rudder does as well, very impressive. A lower righting moment as the lead is inside the hull but it doesn't seem to stop them from safely crossing oceans. JC had just sailed up from the Antarctic.

@ Old Jersey--- Yes-- Looking for a Blue Water between 36'-44'...

@WillJaCocks-- Love cats man-- out of my price range for the quality and feature set I want for our 1st 'big' boat... Agreed-- CATs rock, but suck in small west Florida canals-- can be a pain in a$$..

@Curmudgeon--- Man-- great POST-- I had no idea that the Jeanneau's had beachable models-- That is the best news I have read today!! Not into Aluminum boats though...

@Jedi---- Thanks-- never heard of that boat maker-- I am going to research it this eve.

@ David M---- Ha ha... Yes-- and we all have seen Youtube Episodes on how they sometimes STAY there and become a LOCAL Artificial REEF... lol... Again-- it was--gentle vertical beaching i was looking for...

AHH, Why?? Ive never seen the need to beach a boat! I guess maybe to do the bottom paint maybe?? well ive don't that with a semi deep draft mono a lot of times !! but I really can't see any other reason for beaching !! Just wondering ?

I grew up Sailing in New Jersey and Florida keys-- there are alot of reasons to beach a sailboat for me. Alot of deserted islands on west coast of Florida, FL Keys, Bahamas, Exumas etc... We used to beach the boat on a sandy shore for picnicing-- build a fire, roast lobster or fish on Iron skillets or SS rods over a fire. If you walk the boat into the shallows by foot in familiar waters... There is alot of fun to be had-- and I have three kids who are addicted to combing beaches for the elusive shark's tooth! . It's always an adventure with kids-- they make it so worth the toil sometimes!!

@stevewrye-- man that boat is definitely a cruiser... The lines on her denote a slower -Tugboat-like action in the water... Lol... I did look at the newer ones online-- beautiful boat. It looks like she is not very swift through though by the LOA/LWL ratio-- I wonder what the hull speed the manufacturer set on the 46'? Or the stability index for her?!
