List of my current boat considerations

Just coming outta my shell now. Even starting a thread.

Here is my provisional first draft list of boats i like. Doing some more research before i put boots to the ground and physically go to any possible boats in this assortment.

My choice is not limited to these but its an idea of what direction to go in.

Freedom 44
Brewer 44
Hylas 46
Mason 44
Hardin 45
Kelly Peterson 44
Lafitte 44
CSY 44
Morgan 46 <-- need to look into this one more
Irwin 44
Westsail 43

If you have input that is helpful that's great but more or less I'm just sharing my thoughts.

What a well-respected group of boats, but there is a big difference between a Freedom and a Westsail... as just one example, which direction are you going in?

Without an idea of what you intend to do with the boat, & something akin to your prioritized list of criteria, it's tough to offer any specific feedback.

True but I wasn't necessarily looking for any specific feedback. Just sharing my list of boat's I'm looking into.

However the boat will need to be capable of circumnavigation.

So I am guessing you have a 45 foot slip already?

No but it would seem so after seeing all these examples next to each other. Lol

Re: List of my current boat considerations

I think in general there is a very large range in price and quality throughout that group. A Hylas 46 vs. Irwin 44, for example?

And then there is the design and esthetics range - a Freedom 44 vs. Hardin 45?

I think you have a shotgun approach here - better to define what you want in a boat, in particular what type of design, look and characteristic, and then look at boats meeting those criteria.

Re: List of my current boat considerations

I will narrow down my criteria some but for this "first draft" most of these boats fit my monohull, center cockpit, draft limitation, length criteria.

You have to start somewhere.

But those aren't all center cockpit boats (?)

Why I said "most" not "all".

With the Westsail you could go both directions . The 42 is a center cockpit the 43 is aft . Both were made on the same hull, but obviously different layouts down below . There are different rigs too . I think most popular was the cutter rigged ketch also there was a cutter rig and lastly my personal favorite a schooner .

Re: List of my current boat considerations

Nice list.
-The Irwin probably isn't as good as the others.
-The Freedom may be a cored hull... so keep that in mind.
- The Lafitte's are cool, but very unusual boats.. and the teak decks are almost always a problem at some point in their life... unless it never had them. Very deep tall companionway ladder.
-Consider add a Waquiez to your list.

Re: List of my current boat considerations

We had a similar list. We wanted the Hardin at anchor, and the KP44 while sailing. We ended up with a Wauwuiez Amphitrite, something in the middle. So far so good.

Is it just you? Family? If so, what do they think? I would hit the pavement as soon as you can. Boats look a lot different in the water than on yachtworld.
