Lexcen 40 - Blue Water Cruiser

Hi there,
We are considering buying a Lexcen 40 with the intention of circumnavigating the world in it hopefully departing within the next couple of years. As there is not much information about these yachts out there we are hoping that someone might be able to point us in the right direction when it comes to knowledge about their blue water capabilities. We do know they were designed by Ben Lexcen (designer of the Americas Cup winner 'Australia II' )but other than that we are a bit in the dark. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ben Lexcen was Bob Miller until the mid 70's, when he changed his name to disassociate himself from the sailmaking firm of Miller & (Craig ) Whitworth (UK).
He’s notable as the designer of the “Contender” dinghy (1960's?) and the winged-keeled “Australia II” of America’s Cup fame.
Other of his designs were eliminated in America’s cup competition, both prior to, and after his 1983 success.
I don't believe that he was particularly noted as a cruising boat designer.

The Lexcen 40 is a fantastic cruising boat - tough and strong and well designed. There is one currently circumnavigating from our Yacht club. - Boat called Raven.

The lexcens were a strong favourite of the charter industry in the whitsundays, plenty of room on the boats, sailed reasonably well and even charter sailors couldn't break them, if I was looking at a mono I would certainly have it on my list.
