Let's keep politics off the forum

With respect to my fav forum, I am extremely upset to see the recent advertisements that now pop up. One of the wonderful things about C&S it that it has generally provided a respite from world affairs with politics generally limited to whether one be a fool to sail a particular brand of boat out of the sight of land, and such.

Please join me in petitioning the Site Administrators to keep ALL politics (mine included) off this site which provides so much pleasure to cruisers & sailors world wide.

Can I get a witness?

Thanks,

LouK

I would also like this forum to be free of folks who make personal subjective judgments regarding a politician’s policies.

I’m pretty sure the advertising is targeted. I see ads for all sorts of things that I’ve recently been researching.

It is targeted but it's also possible for the forum owners to turn off certain classes of advertising including excluding political ads. I'm guessing the ad network "updated" something and reset their settings because they usually do a decent job of targeting us with things we at least realistically could be interested in somehow related to cruising. Or an advertiser falsely labeled a political ad as something else to get it by the screens. Either way worth reporting and investigating, I'd want to know if I was Social Knowledge.

Sort of ironic given the hard line taken here towards political discussion by the members.

I voted “never”, but in fact I don’t see any ads I don’t want to. I run ad blockers so am not subjected to unwanted messaging. It makes the whole WWW a lot more palatable. I highly suggest you install one.

I have never seen anything political in the ads on this site but that is probably because all I care about is my boat.

Probably going to change now that I posted this.

OP you should add an 'I don't care' to the poll.
That is quite different to 'They're OK'.

My response is, who cares? I mean, really. If it upsets you that much to see an ad for a politician that you don't like, then you're taking it WAAAAY too personally (which a lot of people do seem to do when it comes to Trump). Get an ad-blocker, or just ignore them.

I would highly suggest an ad blocker.
Interesting that your getting those as they are targeted, I have never, ever seen such as you say, anywhere.
But then I avoid political discussions, sites etc like the plague.

But let me look for info on a pair of Steiner binoculars, I get those ads on every page I see on the internet, even a month later

Re: Let's keep politics off the forum

By the way, I edited the political commentary from both your thread title and the post itself, leaving it generic.
I don’t usually do that, usually they go in the trash and you get a PM requesting you to not make political posts

Re: Let's keep politics off the forum

OK, I'll go ahead and be the first to vote "They're OK." Ads, political or otherwise, must help fund the forum in some way.

Until this thread I was not really paying attention to the ads. The only one I have seen today mentioning POTUS was actually just a mortgage refinancing ad, so not really even a political ad, per se, just using politics to get attention.

As a former sole proprietor, I really struggled with the advertising aspect of running a business, because the constant onslaught of ads has taught me to tune them out. The amount of junk mail, for example, that goes directly from my mailbox to the trash bin is horrific. Who is spending all that money printing and mailing thinking it is going to help their bottom line?

They are not adds unless you look at them, if it helps the forum, go for it.

I did get a little laugh though, one of my posts in the joke thread was taken down for being political.

Keep up the policing of politics, Trawler Forum has been ruined by it. Thank You

I haven't seen any political ads yet and I wouldn't want to see them either.
