Let the Games Begin !

It's official. Retirement has arrived, yesterday

For 2 years we've been selling up to go cruising, now all we need is a boat.

On Tuesday the 14th we hop on a plane to Greece. How's that for a Valentines Day present!
Then a few other places in Europe... just as it slips back into the Ice Age.
Good thing we've got time.
We've also got a hot favourite in USA that is a 'have to inspect'.

Wherever we find our new home will be where the whole adventure starts from. We'll be getting it cruise ready in Spanish, Greek, or even that funny english dialect those tearaway Americans speak...
When we feel ready, or get kicked out of the country, we'll start the journey back to Aus, getting as distracted along the way as possible.

Only a million things to do before Tuesday.

Investment tip. Buy Proctor and Gamble. Got family coming over and tissue sales are going to soar!

Re: Let the Games Begin!

Congratulations! My husband and I have 3 years to go until retirement. We still have much property to sell and with the depressed economy in the U.S. we are waiting to sell hoping things will get better in a few years. We have the same plan to liquidate, buy a boat and head out.

You must feel so wonderful to finally be at this point. I had to watch the movie "Captain Ron" last evening just to feel better about the long wait ahead.

Good traveling and we hope you find the boat that will be perfect for you.

Congrats on your retirement. We have 4.5 years to go. We too are waiting a bit to sell hoping the economy will improve a bit. On the plus side, we already have the boat and I get to tinker and sail until the day comes. Travel safe, have fun, and post a few pics for those of us still waiting.

Good on ya. Have an excellent shopping traveling experience. A little more salt on you will hardly be noticeable.

Congrats. I'm just a couple of years behind you so be prepared.

I'll be happy to go inspect that favorite in the US for you.

Re: Let the Games Begin !

Thanks for all the good wishes... even the 'a little more salt" one!

We're sitting in a Tavern on Leros. What wonderful, generous, hospitable people. We feel like we've been adopted.
There was a thread recently where people discribed Greece as full of rude, aggressive people.
Are there 2 Greeces?

The boat we came to see was a disappointment, only because it requires more work than we're prepared to put in to it right now.
I actually confirmed that a Hudson Force 50 'Venice' is the best liveaboard layout in it's size.
If I was 10 years younger... I guess it wouldn't have been on the market, or in this condition

Thumbs up Re: Let the Games Begin !

Good luck Alex .. I am on the same road but not retired yet .. sold the house after 3 years, so now am boat hunting, but still working. hunting somewhat of a project to finish, lots of good 411 or 40's out there but out of my budget so need to find right one that needs what I want to do. Enjoy and will meet many of you over the next few years .. Paul
