KM's New Yacht the Bestevaer Pure

As many of you know, my wife and I are in the process of having a new Bestevaer 49ST constructed. See this thread:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...147499-50.html

We are visiting KM's yard at the moment and have had a chance to check out one of their new boats. KM have just released Pure, a production version of their 45' Bestevaer. All the individual variations in a custom boat are generally labour intensive, so fixing some of the design details enables a substantial cost reduction.

There are very few production boats that have been designed for long term cruising. Pure fits this bill with its combination of rugged full aluminium construction, a true pilothouse and the option of fixed or retractable keel.

As KM are only a relatively small builder, this has received very little publicity, especially outside Europe.

We got the opportunity to poke around the boat for several hours and were very impressed. Here are some photos.

The high bulwark and sturdy cleats are great cruising features:

So clean, so beautiful. It's a catch 22 discovering this boatbuilder, because they are the most beautiful sailboats I've ever seen, but I know I'll never be able to afford one!

It is a true pilothouse so you can sail (via the autopilot) from inside or just sit back and enjoy the view while having a drink at anchor. There is also the option of sheltering under the small dog house outside. The back flips down to form a swim platform. The boat was being loaded with supplies for its trip to sail to a boat show as I took the pictures so ignore the boxes on deck.

This is the cockpit arrangement:

When considering a cruising boat too many buyers ignore the important underlying construction details. Things like rudder strength are vital. This is the retractable keel version which has twin rudders. The arm of the belcrank is 30mm thick !

The top bearing is not just screwed into a bit of plywood:

Nolex, I hesitate to ask (trembling visibly) but... what is the approximate price range for these?

Re: KM's New Yacht the Bestevaer Pure

Hi noelex. It’s handy that you had the chance to crawl around in the Pure. My wife and I have talked about little else the last few days. I nearly flew over for the open day at the last minute. Two questions if I may:

- the sailing performance data, ratios, speed plots and stability graph all suggest the ballasted centreboard version is a winner, not to mention drying out. Do you know of reasons not to like it? Did you hear any comments on how it sails?

- did you get the sense that the overall build quality and attention to detail was the same with the Pure boats as with KMY’s usual custom work? Sure, layout choices are confined, but I’d like to be sure the quality and materials are still top notch. Hull thicknesses and wood choices could be examples.

- do you have any more pics from your look through the Pure; it was Nescio I think.
