Congratulations on your first sailboat!
Out of curiosity, how did you come to choose that particular model?

Re: Just bought first sailboat!

Good Morning
As they say, best part of owning a yacht is the day you buy it, and the day you sell it...
Nothing wrong with never having sailed, I bought my first yacht without having sailed, and my one and only lesson was from the broker who took me out for a few hours, and yelled instructions to me that seemed a foreign language lol
I am fairly well self taught, however a few lessons do not go astray with the finer and technical aspects of sailing, or you can just do plenty of reading, I know one or two excellent sailors who taught themselves via good old books.
Only concern re your post "I bought it sight unseen. The seller seems like a pretty good guy". They are always good guys because they want to sell their boat LOL I have turned up to view yachts that looked nothing like the photos But I do like the look of your little boat, if it is as advertised I would also be happy...Good Luck

Re: Just bought first sailboat!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats.

Considering all the new, within the last year or so, equipment listed I think you may have made a good decision. Even though sight unseen is not always wise the boat looks very good in the pics.

There will be some surprise expenses, always are, but I think you're off to a good start.

Best of luck.

Hey Snort. The boat has a good reputation and all the recent updates made me choose it. Has several things we were looking for as a Caribbean cruiser. Ac being one of them, larger berth beds etc. I would have been open to a number of boats that had all of that. This things ac is new!
Thanks everyone for the welcomes.
I also got a chance to chat w the folks at the current marina and tjat confirmed as well and said it was a beautiful boat. The current owner did and said some things that showed me I could trust him. There's very few people I would trust to do such a transaction. I was also afraid it would get scooped up by someone els If I didn't get it.

Re: Just bought first sailboat!

Wow very nice looking boat, and clean looking as well.

Last year I bought a boat sight unseen as well, it is a bit smaller than yours (hunter23.5) but we don't live near the ocean, just small prairie lakes, but I'm glad I bought her.

Enjoy your new prize winner.

congrats on the first boat.

old sailing books from the used book store. that's how i learned 20 years ago. one recommendation: get yourself a sailing dinghy to learn on. if you choose wisely, it could also serve as your tender. that way, when you go to sail your new yacht, it will all be familiar. small boats react much faster to the wind than bigger ones. they will give you a feel for it. then, your big boat will be fairly easy. plus, if you mess up and sail too close to a lee shore in your dinghy, you can easily row yourself off of it before you hit bottom and it's a lesson learned with no real consequences.

i admit, the sight unseen thing is a little worrisome. hopefully, that won't be an issue.

Re: Just bought first sailboat!

What a great boat to learn on! You're going to have a ball.

When I was 17 I fell in love with a car - a 1959 Jaguar XK150. I worked and saved and saved and worked and finally bought it (it was a beater so really cheap) after I bought it I heard my father whispering to my mom "But she doesn't know how to drive?!!!?! I had a ball learning to drive and work on cars. Some of us do it the backwards way and, fingers crossed, it works out.

Re: Just bought first sailboat!

The boat looks beautiful. Did you get your own surveyor? If not you are a braver man than I. At any event it appears to be in good shape. I hope it gives you years of safe and happy sailing.
