Jeanneau teak decks

I have a friend who's looking at a 2004 Sun Odyssey 45 with teak decks. His big concern: are they screwed or just glued? Anybody familiar with Jeanneau's factory teak deck approach?

Re: Jeanneau teak decks

A teak deck that is "screwed in" will have teak plugs glued over the tops of the screws. They look like little round wood circles. Do not buy a boat with this if you have a choice as each hole is a potential leak point. Having said that, until epoxy systems had advanced to the necessary level about 15 years ago ALL teak decks were installed in this fashion.

If the boat is manufactured in the last 10 years or so this should not be a problem.

Re: Jeanneau teak decks

I owned a 1998 Jeanneau 36.2 with teak decks. It was glued, no screws. I think any boat built in this era was glued.

Re: Jeanneau teak decks

The ones I sailed had glued teaks. All were post 1980' boats. Look for plugs as mentioned above.
