Jeanneau Sunfast 35 mast?

We took one of these out yesterday for a daysail and couldn't help but notice that the top third of the mast was dramatically curved or swept backwards to aft as though the backstay was on real hard when in fact it wasn't - the mast appears to be designed this way.

What is the reason for this? Improved pointing ability?

a lot of these masts,particuly

fractional rigs have prebend in them, if swept back spreaders are part of the rig then the mast bend is put into the rig to keep the forestay tension on,hence good upwind performance

Iv just bought a Jeanneau36,havnt done a sail test yet, take over next week, any body have any hints on what to look for before I pay the buckaroo over. Ill be doing a hull survey and motor check next week, fingers crossed.
