I think it's a great choice. Fast, light, no rigging simple to sail. I've covetted having some of the Freedoms in the past myself. Just make sure the hull core is not wet. Didnt Freedom have their hulls built at TPI? If so it'll be a good hull.

Correct. Same folks who built the Pearson Triton 28 and the J boats.

My guess is that she would be a bit "lively" (and therefore require a fair bit of input from the crew - aka you!) and on an extended passage that could translate into being a PITA.

But on the upside, cheap always nice (especially when the difference between acheivable or not) and, as you say, for the length a lot of room inside (with bonus of IMO not also looking butt ugly above deck - those tend to go together!).

All comes down whether works for you and your plans - my take is that she would do a job for a lot of nice plans. not everything someone else may ever want to - but enough to keep someone going for another 30 years (or so!) if the plans matched the boat.

Exactly. Sure I'd like something with a palacial interior and that shoulders aside the biggest waves with barely a bobble to slosh my drink. That ain't gonna happen. I'm firmly embedded with the 'run-what-ya-brung' crowd.

If I keep the acquisition, preparation and maintenance costs low, I can afford to cruise indefinitely on my present retirement income. If that means I must forego nudging icebergs aside or rounding Cape Horn west about in winter then so be it. I can live with that
