Island Trader 46

We are looking to semi retire and spend most of the year in Chesapeake, Florida and Bahamas. Interested in an IT 46 for the room. We would like to hear from present and previous owners as to the sailing ability for these areas. We realize this is a motorsailer and not a racer but we are looking for a boat to move around to different areas not on any schedule but want to be comfortable, safe and able to accomodate company.

Thanks. Jeff

I have looked at them in the past also but I agree with what most people say about them and that is the sails are only for show. If you want a boat with that kind of room that can still sail look at the Gulfstar 47.

I owned one for ten years. Without a doubt it was safe, roomy, and comfortable. If anyone expects a motor sailor to sail well, this will not be the vessel for them. The sails provide stabalizing and when used correctly with the motor you won't set any speed records but you will get there. It took me a year of customizing before leaving Florida but we chartered with this vessel for seven years in St. Thomas.
All the best !

Hi,
I'm just in the middle of a purchase on a 46 and also know of a couple others that will be available for sale soon.
