Re: Island Packet 32 - Perfect Compromise?

We lived aboard and cruised on a Westsail 32 for 4 years. Had all the living space and storage we needed. Of course, the W32 is a BIG 32' boat. You could find one outfitted to the hilt for under $50,000. We averaged 118nm per day with virtually no engine usage with a max day of 176nm.

Someone on this site is offering a ready to go Alajuela 38 for around $60,000. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ng-158033.html The Alajuela is an Atkins Ingrid that has been optimized for sailing ability.

There are an awfully lot of boats out there under 38' and $50,000 that would make good cruising boats

Windward ability is something that is greatly over rated when it comes to cruising. Unless you are a masochist, you'll spend almost no time hard on the wind. The World Cruising routes are almost exclusively reaching and running.

Re: Island Packet 32 - Perfect Compromise?

Obviously, different people live differently but I have to question the advice that interior accommodations aren't a key aspect of boat selection.

Not counting the 8 or so hours of sleep, we probably average 5-8hr per day in the cabin. Having a cabin that isn't comfortable would be a deal breaker.

This thread is 4 1/2 years old. Not sure why someone created an account just to resurrect it.

But there is little comfort on their boat...

Your choice is about compromise.... get the biggest boat you can afford is the oft heard advice...

Seems Voodoo had a real nice experience on an IP32 and wanted to share without the pressure of starting a new thread.

That's what I figured. No big deal, but sometimes when this happens we get several of pages of advice to the person who has already bought and sold a boat or moved on to a different hobby by now. Looks like they might have gotten an RV instead.

Welcome to our little travel blog – Jake & Jill Adventures

These guys are cruising an IP31..so I think the size may be fine. Although they are not circumnavigating.

Maybe, but the people who started this thread four years ago are cruising around on an RV now.

Lol. I didn't notice the original date..it was "bold" on my PC so I just assumed it to be recent..guess the "resurrection" explains that. Oh well, it happens. Is the RV statement a guess or do you have information that I have not seen in the thread? Not that it matters to me, just curious..

Yes, it's true. There's a web page listed under their profile.

Re: Island Packet 32 - Perfect Compromise?

Probably 95% or better of the threads have already been asked, and answered.
Nothing wrong with resurrecting an old one as opposed to starting a new one, I don't think.

The point was that I think it was accidental, so now you've got well-meaning people trying to help the OP, who has since moved on to an RV.

That's okay. For every OP that asks a question, there's a lurker who benefits from the answers. Even four and a half years later. In this case the lurker is me.
