Is this worth publishing?

Mexico Bound, a Story of Love and Loss. Is this worth publishing? Let me know if you want to read more.

In 2006-2007 I sailed from Monterey, Ca to Manzanillo, Mexico with my wife Nellie. On the way back home Nellie was leveled by an aneurysm on the Sea of Cortez and died shortly thereafter in La Paz, a nightmare conclusion to a wonderful adventure. What follows is an excerpt from the Foreword.

March 28, 2007 dawned sunny and windy with some scattered clouds. My wife Nellie, our daughter Theresa and her 12-year old son Alex were aboard our 36 foot sloop, Athena. We were anchored in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez at the pretty cove known as Ensenada Grande on the island of Isla Partida.

Isla Partida is separated from the larger Espiritu Santo by a narrow ribbon of water. It is a striking desert island with strong contrasting colors between the browns and ochers of the island and the deep blues of the Sea.

I had made a date the night before to visit Lani Kai, a boat anchored near us, with whom we had had frequent radio contact but whose owners we had never met. We crossed from the mainland to Baja the same night, and we had shared information all night during that crossing.

I was eager to meet them, but the conditions were so rough that I radioed them and canceled.

Re: Is this worth publishing?

I spent a week in Ensenada Grande a few months ago, and we're currently in Ensenada. I'd be interested in reading the rest. A picture I snapped of sundown looking west out towards the peninsula from Ensenada Grande.

Re: Is this worth publishing?

If you want peoples opinions as to whether or not it's worth publishing you need to have some negative answers as choices in the poll.
Your polls choices are like something created by a political party (pick one lol).

I didn't see a poll. The short snippet seemed well written. Sorry for your loss.

Re: Is this worth publishing?

I too am sorry for your loss... IMO even if you don't publish, the act of writing is important.

I would suggest there are ample resources for online/self publishing which won't cost you a fortune. I recommend that people have a critical editor to cleanup grammar and ensure it is understandable by someone that wasn't there. Rule of thumb 37b, never proofread your own work.

Best Wishes,

Re: Is this worth publishing?

What's the intent of you publishing it? If it's to simply share your story and heal, then yes, by all means, publish it!

If your goal is to publish for profit, then you should consider your marketing plan, resources and network (publishers, agents, distributors, etc.) with as much weight as the actual content. Even the very best content is dead in the water without a proper plan and resources.

The brief summary and snippet you provided had my attention, both from a sailing and human interest perspective.

Not to be picky, this is just the teacher in me... Is the whole thing written with an average of two sentences per paragraph? And over how many pages? I am not sure if I would find that easy to read.

On a personal note, I am sorry to hear of your loss. But am glad that you and your family managed to spend such wonderful cruising time together...

It still embarrasses me when my daughter, the school teacher, corrects my grammar and critiques my writing. for this reason our written communication is usually text messages

Re: Is this worth publishing?

self publishing is a whole lot easier and cheaper nowadays thanks to the internet. my friend published a book on some really esoteric subject. it's available on amazon as well as barnes and noble. i don't think he's sold five copies since he published this summer, but....
