Re: Irwin 52' Video . . . You Gotta See this

I'm amused at people with crappy 32' and 36' boats acting like they are in a position to judge and criticize someone who has a mind that can create, think through details and make something happen.

And then there are the "real sailors", who need to hear themselves sound superior to the rest of us by trying to poop on our accomplishments. The the minimalist who thinks the whole world needs to eat ramen noodles and cross oceans, get back in your hole. The reason you spend al of that time at sea is because you never quite fit in on land.

99.99 % of boats spend 99.99% of their time at the dock or on the hook. The vast majority of boaters never plan to cross an ocean. For the 0.001% that are the "real pros" save your comments for when you are at the bar drinking the cheap shitty beer at happy hour because you are too cheap (or can't afford) to actually enjoy the destination you worked so hard to reach.

And congratulations to the people who do things like this Irwin. They are the people who make dreams into reality.

Re: Irwin 52' Video . . . You Gotta See this

I am as jealous as any of the others but the choice of tunes for the video struck me right away... "Insensatez?' Was that a tongue in cheek choice? From the dictionary:
"Insensatez" (usually translated to "How Insensitive" in English, although the Portuguese word really means 'absurdity' or 'folly') is a bossa nova jazz standard composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim,

Really the brightwork is amazing, but why so many TVs?

Sheesh! What junk on this boat! Including a Buddha? Never sails is my opinion.

Beautifully (restored?) and maintained.

Is the engine room and under sole areas the same?

Re: Irwin 52' Video . . . You Gotta See this

Leftbrain,

At least on the Irwin 54' and I am pretty sure on the 52' the area just forward of the stairs and under the floor houses the engine, and forward of that is the generator. It makes getting to the bilges a bit of a pain, but makes it relatively easy to work on the engines... At least it should the generator on ours was installed improperly and the service side was jammed up against the firewall.

Absolutely stunning interior. I'll second the "Wife can never see this" thought.

All of you "ugh, TV bad" folks out there crack me up.

Not all of us would care to live in Liberace's ketch.

Probably not, but most would care to live & let live. Got to see the boat while overnighting in Coinjock a few years back. Absolutely stunning, and yes, all the statutes, fixtures & wall hangings are bolted down. The owners were on their way to NYC at the time. Last I heard they had the boat down in the Bahamas, but that was a couple of years ago now.

Beautiful boat themed small condo! What a nice place to live, but I'd rather go sailing.

Wow so many haters! It looks great. It is a bit much for my taste but it looks awesome. Great woodwork. And judging from the responses he does sail it a lot. He just doesn't cross oceans so the weight isn't such a big deal. My grandmother used to say "if you don't have something constructive to say shut your mouth." There are quite a few super cool people on this forum but more negative ones than I thought there would be. I thought sailors were happy go lucky types?

Just to let you know, she's up for sale now. It was a very hard decision. This is the ultimate cruising yacht in perfect condition. It has very smart engineering and it very simple to maintain. It has everything anyone going cruising, near or far, would want. Every system has been time tested and maintained to this day in tip top shape. I know, it's mine, we sailed her over 30,000 miles.

"Wow so many haters!"

Nice rant but what is constructive about calling other people haters for expressing their opinion that's different from yours? Sounds like just more hating to me.
