All the full keel boats they've chosen so far look great. Seems they may have overlooked a Kaiser "Gale Force 34". Always one of my favorites. But owning a Cape Dory makes me hope one of the entrants is a Cape Dory 36, a real classic.

We propose buying up two Fuji 35's and sailing solo in the same general area as each other. This is better than the plan where my partner started planning his trip, then decided I have more free time and volunteered me to go.

I haven't looked, but it sounds to me to be similar to a classic car race, where they race old cars. Wouldn't make sense to race a modern car with them, the old cars wouldn't stand a chance, and I think a large part is to try to experience what it must have been like "back in the day"

It is an invitation only race, from what I read. That being said if CF decided to sponsor, an invitation from the committee procured and Boaty would truly want to sail in it, I would chip in.

I see it as the kind of endurance test that I might have tried as a young man but am far to much of a smell the roses guy at this stage in my life.

Yes I agree but serious old car races are made with old racing cars and there is a lot of care in what regards years and car types to assure competitiveness. That's serious classical racing.

This is not a race with old racing boats from different periods, like a Velux circumnavigation race, but a race where the only thing that you need to enter is a piece of museum and not even a racing one, completely different boats are allowed provided they are old.

I see nothing wrong in call it a rally and have it in a semi competitive kind way where camaraderie and having fun would be more important then anything but when they call it "a new Golden Globe Race" the are just denigrating what was just a great race 50 years ago.

That was a serious race without any limitation on the boats (there were even a cat racing) and the boats were the ones the skippers found more adequate (fast and seaworthy) to win the race.

A new Golden globe race should follow the same principles of the original or be called something else.
