Re: Insurance

Depends on location. A bunch is FL, pretty cheap in some northern states with little risk.

I know a guys pays like $900 on 65' 1 million$ powerboat but in Michigan.

Re: Insurance

Boat insurance is usually about 1% of the insured value of the boat.

You could call an insurance agent ..... or you can speculate here. Your choice.

Huge difference between a marina queen on the Ches bay and a short handed pacific passage

Re: Insurance

Most recent quotes from BoatUS for same era 42' sailboat:
- $1,300 - Cheseapeake Bay only
- $1,500 - East coast to Jacksonville, FL
- $2,000 - US Atlantic and Gulf waters, no farther south than Norfolk, VA June 1-November 1

BoatUS quotes are available online.

I'll be shopping rates across more providers through a broker soon. I'd like to be able to get to South Carolina in October, but maybe this is not the best year to try and get that quoted.

Cheers, RickG

Re: Insurance

It really depends on where you are. If you are in an area with a 4 month season and an 8 month layup it will be a lot cheaper. If you live in an area with a 12 month season about 1% of value is a good number as long as you are not in Florida or another Gulf state during the hurricane season. If in Fl or the Bahamas during hurricane season it will be approaching 2% and perhaps 2.5-3% if in the Caribbean during the hurricane season. I am currently spending 1.7% to be in Fl and was quoted 3% for the Caribbean and central america. After Matthew I expect well have a big rate increase as is usually the case after a hurricane.

Re: Insurance

You need to ask the insurance company this question.
