In the Market

I am looking to purchase a boat in the 40 to 50k range. I was looking at a 38' Island Trader for 40k, but after reading a lot of bad opinions about them I am looking elsewhere.

Do you have any suggestions on sailboat manufacturers/models I should look into in this price range? Two of us would like to sail from Cali to Hawaii and back and be able to live aboard while in a marina. What we are looking for in a boat is good seaworthiness, fair comfort, and affordable maintainability. A very fast boat is not necessary but one that can sail in light and heavy winds would be preferable.

Thanks for your help.

Re: In the market

There's a long list of boats to choose from in that price range. Have you had a look at the "Mahina List"? Just google that and you'll get a load of good options. There are other notables that didn't make the list and you'll also find them on a forum or two in relation to the original list.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you posting here. When you are headed for Hawaii let me know. If you will be in Hawaii temporarily then what you have planned is good. There are very few liveaboard state sponsored slips here so get on the list if you want to stay longer. The commercial marinas are expensive.
Do some research using the search button above and you'll get some good advice about Hawaii.

kind regards,

Re: In the Market

You might also want to check the classified section right here on CF--lots of interesting boats show up there.
