I'm in Love!! With a Boat!

I recently fell in love with a Halberg-Rassey 46!

The three cabin layout seemed to be almost (almost) perfect for our family of five. It's an 'almost' because my oldest daughter shares a room with her little sister and would love to have her own. It comes up quite frequently. So perfect would be a cabin for each of the three kids. But life is a compromise. As I am led to believe.

The aft cabin is amazing. The bunk room is great. Room for a washer/dryer is quite the bonus for a future upgrade. Two heads is perfect. Kids cabins forward. Privacy and maybe some peace in the back. The spacious saloon. Wonderful cockpit.

I've run out of adjectives so you have been spared further gushing.

To summarize, I really like the layout.

Ggrrhh, I tried to paste an image of it here....

Can you old salts, relentless researchers and boat trivia experts tell me what other boats I should be looking at....

Since I'm spending my spare time at CF I haven't looked into reviews of this boat. I don't know anything about performance and safety for the hull design.

Safety. Comfort. Performance. is my order of hierarchy.

Max $240,000 is my budget. The lower the better of course.

Thanks much all! This is my first love affair with a monohull. (Well my second really - but the Gozzard was really quite unrealistic. Way out of my budget! I was young. And it probably had more wood than I could handle. And what a name!)

Don't know which year Rassy you are looking at, but Cruising World gave them an outstanding review a few years back. Google Hallberg-Rassy 46 and Cruising World to read the reivew.

Can't say I blame you, it is a beautiful boat.

Re: I'm in love!! With a boat!

Well thanks for the replies guys but ....

I'm looking for a LESS EXPENSIVE boat with a similar layout. My budget is way below what an eight year old Hallberg Rassey 46 would set me back. $240K - that's it. There has got to be a suitable boat for that price.

Comfortably accommodate family of five.
Not break the bank.
Safe.
Beautiful.
Moderate performance.

What is similar to the Hallberg Rassey 46' in terms of layout. I haven't looked at many monos. I really like the bunk room, the large stateroom and the large saloon area. Galley looks great too. And the cockpit is even fairly roomy.

What do you recommend?

Hunter and Benetuea, good 10 year model can be gotten for about that the price of that 20+ year HR46.

Isn't this a little like marrying the girl down the street because she looks a little like Catherin Zeta Jones?

Re: I'm in Love!! With a Boat!

We bought the perfet boat for a family of 3 to cruise in. Then we added a new baby and suddenly 2 cabins seems small. We probably won't be changing boats (we'll make it work) but options we looked at and liked were: Tayana 52( several in your price range) and the Hylas 47.

I'm confused, are you suggesting that would be wrong? Because it sounds pretty good!
