Hunter Legend 375 from mid nineties

Hello! Going to take a look at a Hunter 375.... a Hunterrrrr....... yes! Trying to read up, found the original marketing material etc. A cored hull if I am correct.... little scary, I assume the areas around thruhulls are not solid? Read horror stories about travelers being screwed into the deck core, mast compression posts disintegrating, blisters, boat being overly flexible (double scary with cored hull/deck etc). Also read posts on Sailing Anarchy that this was Hunter at its best blablabla ... No posts here with the legend 375 in the title.... Anybody wants to pitch in??? Not crossing any oceans etc, (4 yr old and 4 months old on board).

My 97 Hunter 430 is solid, no complaints except for the Volvo in it, which is unusual...

I had one and loved it. I thought she was very fast and lots of folks agreed.
Only problem (and it wasn't a little problem) was water intrusion in the coach roof in the areas surrounding the mast. Big problem here in Canada where she freezes solid every winter and swells up the GRP as well as the rotten plywood core,
Dan

Re: Hunter Legend 375 from mid nineties

Very popular boats.

Construction quality was sub-par. Problems I've observed include water logged decks, hull-deck separation, interior falling apart, cheap parts.

The hull-deck separation, I should clarify, was clearly a construction problem from the factory.

Expect to put some work into it, but when you've got it all fixed up it's a good sized boat for the money.

Tepeare, I know this is a dated post but I am looking at a similar vessel. Is there any way you could be any more specific, i.e.; dates, models, marinas of these Hunters. Any help would be appreciated .

I own a legend 37.5, 1990. She's awesome! Been in the Atlantic in storms.....no issues.

Before we bought our present boat, we owned a 1998 H40.5 for about 10 years.

Having that experience and reading the seemingly uninformed criticisms here, it seems to me some people don't have a clue but simply want to appear authoritative. For example, the 37.5 does NOT have a cored hull but does, as do virtually all other boats, have cored topsides.

The so-called .5 Hunters (37.5, 40.5, etc). were some of the best made among the group of similarly priced Calalinas and Beneteaus. Build quality, equipment and rigging design often were superior to their competitors. In some aspects, the H we owned was superior to our present boat.

If you want objective opinions, I think you will have to look at other forums as this one has more than it's share of basement sailors
