Hunter 28' steering cable

Been looking at this site for a while, ya'll know yer' stuff. I was doing make ready for the sailing months ahead on my Hunter and found2-3 frays on the steering cable.(radial type) a piece of cake taking it off, Putting a new one back on/??? Welll time will te3ll. HAHaha should be very easy as I have lots of access room just under the decking and into the Edson pedestal. Question is... Seems it is a 2 piece, and been pricing through edson, THEY want like 255.00 for the whole shibang Thinking of buying SS 3/16 cable myself and have a rigeer shop put it all together. Chain is like new no slop in links and it was always well oiled. Or should I bite the bullet and go for OEM parts??? Thanx in advance
Mark

Steering cable is just 7 x 19 (7 strands of 19 wires) type 316 S/S wire rope, which can be sourced from any reputable vendor.
Also examine the attachments, clamps & thimbles etc.

No reason you can't buy 316 ss wire...Is there any obvious reason why cable frayed?
have someone turn wheel all the way, both ways... observe any contact or friction, leaks/rust from lockers or deck, I maintain coat of grease between steering quadrant and cable.
Just checked and tightened my cables.
