Re: Hull scraping

The hulls i do now are for commercial vessels which can cost upwards of 3 grand depending on how long they go between maintenance. One call over the summer the owner said his scallop boat was running way too hot and asked me to clean the keel coolers. It was so bad the marine growth made its way into the lazarrette and engine room. I must have removed about 12 thousand lbs of mussels that were hanging 4 feet from the hull. The captain called me from his sat phone a few days later saying he gained 3 plus knots and used half the fuel he normally ate through.

You should have done it for free!

12,000 lbs mussels @ $3 a pound makes a whopping $36k!

A diver here in Brisbane charged me $80 to do my 30ft H28 two years ago. He was doing a boat next to me and I paid cash....maybe that helped.

Re: Hull scraping

Thats the way to do it. When I did recreational marinas I would have to charge the client who called more because I had to load up and drag all my gear to the location. But, after if someone said how much to take a peek at my wheel, clean it, blah blah it would be less since i was already there. Some days where I expected a one hour dive turned into diving well into the night.
