Hughes northstar 1500

Hi I have been lurking for several years now. Finally pulled the trigger on a Hughes northstar 1500. 35'. This is my first sailboat. It is as I guess all boats are a work in progress. It came without motor transmission or v drive. I have found a used atomic 4 with transmission but I can't find out what v drive it would matchup with. Any one out there have any ideas? If original was any good or if there would be a better replacment Thanks

Thanks for the very good info. Boat came with some info but no info on drive line or motor.
