We have a medium size bean bag on board and it gets taken out every time we sail.
Its in the cockpit or aft deck or fore deck or cabin top...its very popular.

With enough water....They float... really really well.

I bought one from Target that was a perfect international orange. That's what I want thrown to me if I go overboard. I can picture myself bobbing along in the water in no hurry to be pulled out.

Then you realise you took 3/4 of the beans out and your nostrals are barely sticking out of the water!!!

This was a labor of love but it kept me sane during a heavy work period and works a treat. If I was to start again I'd flatten the middle section a little flatter for motoring.

One Love: helms seat

looks amazing!!
the best looking sailboat iv seen was never varnished, the owner left the teak to the elements with only an ocasional was with sea water and brush. The look of gray teak is awsome, the feel when you tuch it is perfect.

Just to edge the thread back to the OP, we have a saddle shaped helmsman's seat which both raises us high enough to see over the forward coming and is most comfortable. The off watch has full length 3 inch dri-fast foam cushions to stretch out on. Even with stepping on, the cushions last five years or so and then I just make a new set. I would love a bean bag but our cockpit is too wide to brace feet on the leeward seat.
