Holland 30 Help from Sydney!

Hi,

I am new to this forum and after a long search have found a reasonable looking Holland 30 at a great price. I am doing the usual pre-purchase inspections, surveys and checks prior to committing but I am finding it almost impossible to find anything online about this make? Does anyone have one or any advice about where I can find an owners group or forum for owners?

The boat looks like a Holland ˝ tonner but I am not sure if it is exactly the same or not? Link is here:

Used 1982 HOLLAND 30 Boat For Sale - boatpoint.com.au

Would appreciate any help you could give me in learning a bit more about this boat. Many thanks.

Angus

Re: Holland 30 Help from Sydney!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Where you may be experiencing difficulties is that there may not have ever been a Holland 30.

Ron Holland has be a very successful yacht designer for a very long time. You could try emailing him with details of your intended purchase.

Could the boat that you are looking at be a Nicholson 30 designed by Ron Holland?

Re: Holland 30 Help from Sydney!

Welcome aboard! I did a google search like you and didn't get much.

Here is the sailboat.com data listing -

Sailboat Designs of RonÂ*Holland by LOA

I did find a Holland 25 owners forum but no Holland 30 posts.

For me an "orphan" boat is a labor of love. If something manufactured breaks you can be really screwed finding a part. Often you have to have it custom made.

Re: Holland 30 Help from Sydney!

Hi,

Thanks for the help and welcome to this forum. I contacted Ron Holland and he said that the 'Holland 30' was built in the late 1970's to early 1980's by Doug Sharpen in Melbourne. Reading posts on other forums it appears that Sharpen ran the production line for the Holland 25 x a few hundred boats. I cant find anything about Sharpen - has anyone heard of him? I am trying to find out about build methods and other owners. Appreciate your help!
