HIN location Tayana 55 1987

I'm searching for the HIN location of a Tayana 55 1987. Checked transom upper starboard side, no success.

Any other potential location?

Check along the outside of hull on the starboard aft too...

Has the boat has ever been painted (or repaired in that area)? It might have been obliterated.

Boat painters should know enough to tape off the number... but that would take an extra 10 minutes in a week long job...

If you still have trouble locating it, contact the manufacturer, they have a "secret" location where the HIN is located.

Hi BILLKNNY,

Thank you for the reply, I will inspect the starboard side aft hull outside area early tomorrow morning.

The vessel was purchased 8 months ago in Ft Lauderdale and the previous owners may have done a paint job on with the concecuences. The positive side is that because of those 10 minutos possibly saved got me searching for answers and landed me at this cruisers forum. I just signed up a few minutes ago and there is much to explore.

I will keep on searching in the area recommended early in the morning before going to work.

My HIN was carved into the top of the cap-rail on the aft strb side. Just a HINt....

On my 1991 Hylas the HIN was located in the bilge at foot of companionway steps.

Mine is located at starboard top transom and one according Tayana in the anchor chain locker either starboard or port top. The transom one is over painted and very hard too see.

It is well known that good number of FD-12s do not have HIN. I know I don't have one. Its from the same yard in the 80s. Perhaps you never had it. Did you have any prior paperwork. I went through 30 years worth of surveys and transactions from Coast guard Title search and no HIN. Boat goes by Coast Guard Official Number.

Thank you all for your valuable support. I got emails and several options to search. When I was searching google for possible answers , it directed me to this great supportive community.

I'll explore the options to find the HIN location. Both side of the transom has been repaired and no signs of it. We do have the brokers documents from Ft Lauderdale with it but our local custom authorities here in Aruba need to personally see the HIN and compare it to the documents, that's the reason I'm searching for it.

If I can be of any assistance in the future I'll be happy to assist. I did fill in a quick summary in "Greed & Meet" last Tuesday when I logged in(MGeerman).

Thank you all fellow cruisers for the assistance, I did contacted Tayana, Mr Wang, the broker, inspected several recommended locations and yessssss I found it.

Monus did hit the nail on the head, yes for the Tayana... I found the HIN in the upper side of the anchor chain locker, I sleep in the forward berth and had the HIN plate all the time next to my head ( 2 feet away)and I'm breaking my head in finding it. Fellow cruiser Monus thank you one more time same as all others that assisted me.
