Help Identifying this boat...

Hi all,
Been lurking and love the forum! I ran across this boat in San Diego and just love it. Can someone help in identifying what it is?

Pacific seacraft Orion. Only PS "in house" design.

Boatguy30 is correct. The Orion 27 is pretty distinct looking among 27 footers out there in that it 'looks the part' as ready to set sail for long distance Ports. At least in my eyes all these years of having seen them afloat. Nice sailing design and pretty roomy for a couple who wants to go cruising for real with a limited budget.

That's it! It sure does look the part...there's one of these or a Nor'Sea 27 in my future. I like the kinda old school look. Any others I might like?

Doubt they sail "well" but probably about the same as other similar deigns. MUCH bigger boat than the Norsea

Boat, could you point me at some similar designs? I'm at the early stages of boat lust and just learning what I like.

Thanks!

I sailed on one down South 10 or more years back, but if I recall it seemed to sail well on most points of sail compared to the boats around us at the time in moderate conditions. I don't know it's light air abilities but I would trust it at Sea in a blow that's for sure.

I agree that it's a MUCH bigger boat than the Norsea 27. The Norsea is really tight inside due to the narrow beam. Having been aboard a Norsea 27 I was looking at for sale I walked away without looking back because of the cramped IMO interior. I'd choose a Dana 24 over the N27 because it has *sparkling* sailing performance for a boat of 24ft IMO.

As the semi-forgotten PS step child they are probably a bargain. If you have more funds you might find a PS31 for under 60K these days. A nicer boat.

Something like a Cape Dory 28 or better a 31 might be a better value. Don't care much for the 30 personally.

That is the early version of the Pacific Seacraft Orion 27.

Cape Dory might be lots cheaper but then again its a cheaper boat. Quality control may be questionable. Tons of them up here with the usual old boat problems. PS are a quantum jump up in quality, but you pay for it.

Thanks!

You might also like the Ericson Cruising 31 sloop or cutter. Very different than other Ericsons. "Classic" look, transom hung rudder, sweet sheer line, lots of room for its length. A nice Bruce King design if I recall.

If you like traditional designs in glass the Bristol Channel Cutter is my favorite. It's 28' on deck but it's a big 28'. The Sam L Morse version is the one to look for.

But given the mega bucks it will cost, might as well buy a hans christian 38 or even a PS 31. Plus who wants a boat you can not stand up in all the way from galley to v-berth?
