Re: Help Getting Info on my 1979 Cheoy Lee

I have read that there is supposedly two places where hull numbers are located on vessels, one typically on the transom and the other in a hidden place that only the manufacturer is supposed to know, but often they are carved in place in very visible locations of the inner hull.

I purchased a brand new Hobie tandem Island Adventurer a few years back and it was not numbered at the factory, so I had to write to Hobie to ask for them to assign one for titling. I was thinking of placing my own hull identification on it, being a Star Wars fan - "Hobie-Wan Kenobi"

With reference to the oval bronze plate - I believe the 4 digits displayed would be 3411 for your vessel - try contacting Jonathan Cannon at Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong:

Jonathan Cannon
Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd.

Lai Chi Kok, Kowloon
Hong Kong
Tel: +852 2307 6333
Fax: +852 2307 5577
E-mail: joncannon@cheoylee.com

Jon has been an invaluable resource for answers to some other questions about my boat - a 1980 Cheoy Lee Offshore 38 (sloop rig, Ray Richards design) - very likely a sister ship to yours!

Good luck, and please post here with anything you learn...

What does the grease cup lubricate?

The grease cup is to pump grease into the stuffing box. At least that’s what it did on mine!
