Health?

Hello everyone,
I am new here, Wife and I have been looking for a boat for almost a year.
We have come down to A Cheoy Lee 36, Or a Pearson P40. Anyone have any input on these 2 boats? I like the Pearson best.
Does owning a sail boat cause health deterioration? We have looked at many boats beaing sold due to health problems. The owner of one boat had a heart attack while I was looking at his boat.

Re: Health?

Hi, and welcome. It may just be that so many people love their sailing, that, the only ones appearing on the market are from people who only give them up when they are unable to sail due to health problems. Me? They'll get my boat when they pry the wheel from my cold dead hands...

Re: Health?

It is a little known fact, but all sailboat owners die sooner or later.

Re: Health?

Sailing/cruising can be very many things.

If you are right now into very sedentary and stressful life, some sailing may actually help you get into better shape in both aspects.

However, if you are an active type, you will have to find extra ways of staying fit while cruising.

Also, some personalities find longer passages boring and a bored mind is as bad, or worse, than an over-stressed one.

So this all depends on your condition now and on the type of sailing you will do. You can get better, you can get worse.

Cheers,
b.

I think they're both good boats...

And yes... Boat ownership has been known to cause serious episodes of delusion.... The most common being that the next objective is about 10% of the work, cost, and time vs reality.... Yard Isolation is another probable and serious condition you should be aware of... If you find yourself starting to ignore friends and responsibilities in lieu of being covered in epoxy/paint/fiberglass/bottom dust... You should seek some immediate help from friends at the closest watering hole to obtain consolation from your peers... As you have seen... The occasional heart attack or stroke does happen... Usually in conjunction with the receipt of a yard bill in your valiant effort to avoid Yard Isolation... (see above)

Finally... all of these conditions and more are seriously compounded when considering or owning more than one vessel... People would think that it's a straight linear curve , but in reality.... the negative effects increase exponentially... (see delusion above)

Once in a GREAT while... Positive health benefits can be observed... Like the ear to ear grin of the wind coming over your shoulder staring out at a poled out kite... At this point, delusion is your friend, as you decide in your mind that this is all worth it...
