Cool Hardin 45, S/V 'Rapture'

The owner of this fine boat has accepted my bid and I will be the new Captain of her.
There is some refitting that has to be done; Such as a new electronic package. weaning her off of A/C voltage to Battery power... May take awhile on that one. Inspect the sails suspect they're near end of life for them and a few other details.
But over all she is a sweet looking lady, that was very lonely in that slip when I first saw her.

Re: Hardin 45, S/V 'Rapture'

Thursday, 28th day of July; Had sea Trials and survey on the S/V Rapture.
Shook out all four sails and They appeared to be in good condition. The winds were light and because of the Rock steadiness of the Rapture, you didn't have the feeling of movement, though we could see that we were moving. This is a boat that loves much stronger winds. The engine ran good and so did the generator, but with a wiring ground problem.
On the haulout for the survey the hull was clean, the bottom paint only about a year old. All of the electronic are thirty years out of date. The freezer cold plates & components was trying to work but didn't. The two A/Cs worked but need to be cleaned. We had a heavy rain that afternoon and this revealed that a couple of the hatches' gaskets need to be replaced
and there is a major leak that come out behind the galley counter. We couldn't find where it was coming in. The Shaft's stuffing tubes were tight. The through hull valves were stiff. All of the running rigging really needs to be cleaned along with the sails.
She will make an excellent home for me, as both a live aboard and a cruising sail boat.
Changes I want or have to make; Find that leak. Change out the electric stove to propane. A couple of bulbs were bruned out and needs replacement... Change all the bulbs to LEDs. Have an A/C man to fix the freezer and clean out the A/Cs. Electrican to repair the electrial problem on the generator.
All of this, if the owner accepts my offer, can be done as I'm moving aboard.
Took a nap while waiting for the rain to clear away. It was like being Home in my own place of comfort.

Re: Hardin 45, S/V 'Rapture'

One other major detail was discovered. The holding tank is a bladder, with the discharge hose leading nowhere. A more appropriate tank will have to be installed.
That bladder is small, not more than 5 gallons. Installed on its side an really could only use only half of it. NO, I find it unacceptable. Needs replacement ASAP.

Re: Hardin 45, S/V 'Rapture'

I am very happy for you also. I spent a lot of time on this boat myself and drove in from Dallas just to look at her. I then went on to Florida and looked at about 15 others but liked that Hardin best. Came very close to making a offer on her. It was clear that her only PO loved and took good care of her. A few weeks ago when I saw the sale pending on her I was kinda sad although happy that someone might buy her who would get her out of that slip as she did look sad there.
