Anyone familiar wit Hanse 545? Is it a good boat to cross ocean?

One was abandoned NE of Bermuda last week. It hit something and was taking on water. It was sailing in ARC Europe. I don't favor cored hulls and open sterns on off- shore boats (but that's just my opinion).

Every boat is a compromise.
Look at the pictures and see what you are getting....what is not in the pictures is what you are not getting.
I have helped a few Hanse owners with problems. They are beautiful, perfection in their slip, and out on the bay for a day, then dinner aboard later with arm candy.

So the question really is, "Do you want a cruising boat or that?"

Thanks for the feed backs. Eventually I hope to cross ocean with my boat. How's a hanze compare to a oyster boat ? Anyone familiar with both? Apparently a oyster is alot more expensive .

Sort of off thread but I always wonder when I hear about boats that have not actually sunk but are abandoned.

As for open sterns and core...duh
Still diff. strokes, etc.

Apparently. I would take an Oyster anywhere... not so sure about the Hanse...still...they sure are purty!!

These are two completely different sorts of boat. Which Oyster do you mean specifically? New posh Oysters are xpensive but so are Hanses. Older Oysters are pretty good bang/buck.

Hanses are lighter, potentially faster in light airs, Oysters are more cruising oriented.

Sort of like apples/oranges dilemma.

OK found her. Hanse, but not the 545. Hit a ufo. Bad luck. Could happen to any other design.
