Hallberg-Rassy Used Boat Issues and Delamination

We are looking to purchase a used Hallberg-Rassy for water sailing">blue water sailing. We have become concerned after reading about hull delamination and wondering if this was limited to particular years of production or certain sizes. Does anyone have any direct experience with quality issues of Hallberg-Rassy's that you would share?

Yep, HNL, JFK. Who are you flying with these days? More important, what are you sailing?

It’s just a job, good old time was gone. Sailing is more important to my life, lol.

Clipper747, are you sure you're not thinking of the case of a new HR37 that had delamination problems leading to a lawsuit?

https://www.boatdesign.net/threads/h...al-case.35445/

It was discussed on a lot of forums as it was a single and highly unusual case. I've not heard of any other HRs having hull problems. In fact, Swedish boats tend to be of the highest quality (HR, Najad, Malo, Vindo etc.).

Here is the pdf file with the information:

I am glad I am not buying a HR... This should not have happened and, for sure, it should not have been handled this way by the factory.

I'm not sure it's fair to condemn a 50-year legacy of building excellent boats based on one boat. However, I agree HR could have handled the case better.

Re: Hallberg-Rassy Used Boat Issues and Delamination

I asked in passing a few seasoned surveyors that I know about this supposed issue and they both gave be blank stares and said they’d never heard of or seen this on a Hallberg Rassy. Methinks it was an isolated case.

Howdy, Chris 777,
Retired DC-8 and 10, and B-737, located now in Naples Fl.
Former owner of a Wauquiez Pretorien, and considering a HR 36, we are located only two hours from Bradenton, and we are wondering if you could allow us to have a quick look of your boat. Lunch is on us.
Best,
Gerard
