Guns on board. Yes/no

Stu, the 106 was I'm sure meant even less seriously than the torpedo.
I have seen them in museums, don't know when or why they were removed from active inventory.
However, I'd take a CWIS anyway over a 106, or maybe a Mark 19
Completely silly of course, where would you even get such things?

What about this idea ?
Make a torpedo which you tow behind the boat. I imagine it can be made of a number of dynamite sticks. Then mantle it with ball bearing balls along it's length. That way the blow will go to the side and not towards your boat.
The detonator cable needs to be run in the towline so you can ignite it when the pirates come close enough. The hole thing needs a watertight cover of course but that should be easily penetrated by the balls.

I have read in another thread of how to make a cloud behind the boat by injecting antifreeze into the muffler of the engine. Maybe it would be a good idea as a compliment.

I have no idea if the torpedo has to be declared when entering a country. What questions are asked ? It's not a gun is it ?
No need to get that complex. Just attach a few Claymore mines with steel backing plates around your hull.

Good thing they knew better than to use a 106mm RCLR in the rescue.

Reminds me of a picture I saw years ago, it had an Airborne Ranger in free fall with a Claymore strapped to his helmet and the clacker in right hand, boring in on a Mig.

Silly, but funny

Of course it's silly and not to be taken seriously.

This whole thread is - starting right from the tr***ing OP who said he is planning to circumnavigate Africa from Cape Horn.

You really can't compare their skill level with the average yachtsman who probably doesn't even spend $100/mo on ammo.
Exactly!! Even the difference in motion from a 35-40' sailboat and a 50-60' sailboat is very noticeable.

There is no comparison to shooting from a small boat and shooting from even a small ship. I would note that the motion on a sailboat, even in moderate conditions and seemingly regular swells is far from regular or predictable.

I would be willing to bet that almost none or may none at all of those claiming one can shoot accurately from a small boat has ever tried it. I have and it is way, way more difficult than you would think. Now I'm no highly trained, professional marksman but I've been shooting all my life and not a bad shot and I literally would have been lucky a house at 200-300 meters.

If it gets down to a gun battle between a sailor and a pirate it will be up close and personal.

I think you have a point there, it has sort of taken on another joke thread sort of feel too it.
Maybe not what the OP intended?

Wouldn't be the first thread where the tread starter never reappeared.
However I have enjoyed the thread, many, many threads sort of drift after the original question has been throughly answered.

I see this place like the Barber shop in Andy Griffith's show, or like many Hardware stores used to be, usually old men would sort of hang around and just talk.

'Bout all we're good for, eh? But mostly now it's around the dinghy dock...

Pirates are like most criminals they are brave against unarmed men and woman but are cowards when someone stands up to them with force. If you don't defend what you love expect to lose it.

The 106's may be out of active inventory but not long gone. They are currently being used by several ski areas who have active avalanche control programs. They replaced the old 105's after at least one fatal incident on the gun mount with the older 105. There are also several 74 mm pack howitzers in use for the same purpose

What about a nice fuel pump setup, hose and nozzle. No one can arrest you for having a fuel transfer pump and hose.

And a serious deterrent if you accidently sprayed a pirate boat then unfortunately it caught fire at the same time.
