Guilty As Charged--Opinions Sought

I know, yet another 'what do ya think' thread....but here goes.... Hans Christian 33T....1986, Hansa built, presumably. Interested in all thoughts, not looking for anything in particular, except reports of 30hp being underpowered, teak deck issues. Thanks for taking the time to read/reply.

Re: Guilty As Charged--Opinions Sought

30 hp in my 38 was not enough. might be ok in the 33. Teak deck issues are probably about like other teak deck boats. Had mine removed and repainted. Never sailed a 33, but some people I've talked with said it may be the best sailor of the bunch... for it's size. Not great sailors in general. I think my Bronze cast traveler setup probably weighed 150# !! The varnish, sanding etc never ends. My 38 (shown in pic at left) had blisters, needed decks rebuilt or removed, teak hatches were starting to come apart, deck stoarge chests were falling apart (poor ply under the beautiful teak). Very solid boat though and beautiful inside and out. Brokers and listing s said the boat was worth $135k. Took me 1.5 years to sell in a good economy and I had to take $90k before broker's fees. (repairs had been done: the boat was peeled new bottom, decks removed and painted, and boxes fixed as well as hatches ) Ready to cruise except water maker.

Thanks....your 38 sure is a beaut...brightwork does scare me a bit...retired Coast Guard here....I tell my wife 'everyday is a Saturday'....much to her chagrin. My Sabre 30 is just a tad small for us....

Re: Guilty As Charged--Opinions Sought

You pretty much get used to any boat you get. They are all a compromise for sure....
