Technically speaking yes they would and volvo parts are more readily available on the market. Not saying volvo parts are cheap but they are easier to find because more places service volvo engines and stock the parts.

If its a M-B 2 cyl. diesel of the OM series then these engines where being "marinezed" by a marine engine company (most likely Stokes of Coldwater, Michigan)

There is the OM632 a 2cyl or a OM636 which is a 4 cyl engine. I believe there was an OM615, but thats from memory. Parts should be available from Freighliner or Thermo-King

That's my point, I've had volvo's in a few of my previous boats. And no matter where I was cruising at least when in the US I always had 3 or 4 places I could go to get parts and had many after market options usually. I would have to occasionally order parts but not as frequently as one would with a engine that was used less frequent.

Also I'd like to add the knowledge collectively on volvo's will be greater than with the Mercedes. If I was stumped on what part I would need it was generally easy to find someone somewhere that I could bounce the issue off of that could help me.

I love Sea Sprites! Here is a nice one just listed on YW. Condition appears very good and asking price is very competitive.

Re: Great Boats at Great Prices?

Last year I had a slip next to this Endeavor, it was a nice looking boat that seemed decently cared for by its liveaboard owner. I just noticed he is selling it on Craigslist and the price seems reasonable, he has a small child so he might just be moving up. It is located in Beaufort, NC.

Re: Great Boats at Great Prices?

I have seen this listing and considered posting it on the blog but decided it didn't meet some of my criteria. I think there is a lot more "project" type work involved with this boat than would initially appear.

Haven't noticed anyone recognizing the Formosa's, all of them, and CT's. Maybe I missed, but certainly they are ocean worthy, though high maintenance, as with all semi production boats from Hong Kong area.

Re: Great Boats at Great Prices?

Love the Formosas but to date have not seen one for sale that meets my criteria of being a great boat at a great price. Usually too much teak and too high a price.

Now here is a very interesting opportunity. Not too much interest in steel hulled boats on the US east coast but this Van De Stadt designed 36' Falco looks to be in very good condition and the asking price is intriguing.

I think this is true, and very interesting. They used to be made of unobtainium, and now there are usually a bunch of them moving in the 50K or less range.

Somebody should snap this one up: I don't know I don't know sailboat for sale in Florida

It could be the bargain of the century. I just don't know.

Re: Great Boats at Great Prices?

It's been some time since I found a boat worthy of posting here. This Cape Dory seems to fit the bill. Price seems a bit high but when you consider a new engine, new decks, new paint, new sails, and an extensive suite of electronics it starts to look very interesting.

My first "new" boat was a Columbia 7.6. I loved that boat. If it were closer to me, I'd consider picking this one up as a second boat.
