I agree. From the listing, I don't see where the $$ get much higher. A bit of work to make her bristol, but I didn't see anything in the listing to get too scared of. Of course, that *IS* the truly dangerous thing about yachtworld listings and this thread. Don't think for a minute you can tell the condition of a yacht from an on-line listing. There are some real eye-sores that truly need just a little TLC, and there's some eye candy that have major $$$ needed to make them sea-worthy. You just don't know till you spend some "quality time" with them.

Well I certerainly think one yacht that has not had a mention yet is the rival yachts they are a proven blue water yacht and the 38a of which there is a couple for sale right now at 38k you could just sail away right now and will not have any probs check out the rival owners web site there is a list of yachts for sale there www.rivalowners.org.uk

Might want to almost double the 38k - the prices are in British Pounds.

This Cabo Rico 38 looks to be an incredible deal! New Decks, New Engine, Barrier Coated Hull, Interior looks very nice…. It's almost too good to be true.

Hmmm... recored decks and peeled/rebuilt bottom. This boat was very waterlogged! Leaves one wondering why....I guess if it was all properly fixed it would be good...?

The woman in the slip next to my haul out slip bought an OC 42 (built by Hank Hinckley's company) for $38,000.00 from an insurance salvage. One of two center cockpit models of that boat built.
The boat was next the slip over from a boat that burnt in, the total damage was a damaged mainsail and jib and some pealing varnish on the toe rail.
Also some scratches to the port side of the boat when they moved it in hurry.
Otherwise the hull and the rest of the boat were fine.
She found a used head sail for a reasonable price and is having a replacement main made.
Otherwise it needed cleaning.
Since she got it for such a reasonable price she is upgrading the electronics.
Looked it over and it is a beautiful, well designed, well built boat.
There are many different ways to find an affordable cruising boat. Sometimes it requires looking further afield.

Good to know, thanks to the OP for starting the thread. Plus those who've contributed either wisdom, links, or both to it. It's DEFINITELY a buyer's market right now, & with a bit of digging some REAL deals can be found.

The only catch(es) are, you have to have the cash on hand, possibly be willing to travel on very short notice, & dig up reliable surveyors in the locale where the "deal" is. And when I say surveyors, I mean; standard type, rig type, & engine mechanic. As if you miss something in any of these areas, that "deal" isn't one.

Great thread folks. I am new to the board and looking, though perhaps a little older / smaller. One thing that occurs to me is that for a true "blue water" boat it should have a "large" freshwater and fuel tank. Large being so nebulous but still. Some of those mentioned in this thread have tiny tanks. I'd hate to head out very far with a 20 gallon freshwater tank.

The cool thing about boats is that "great boat at great prices" is so flexible. This thread is a bit above my means, but well below other's means. It is really great though to get a list of manufacturers / models to look at that can really be expected to cruise way offshore.

Virtually none of the boats posted about were designed to sail offshore. You can always add extra tankage for water or fuel.
