Re: Got my First Sailboat!

Right now my boat is at West End by Murray Yacht Sales office. Theyre doing most of the work, cleaning the boat inside and hot, stripping varnish, cleaning the teak and then oiling. Also replacing the Velcro on some stuff and adding fire extinguishers, putting the pull out garbage can back on the tracks, etc. Also Freon needs a charge for the aft cabin as it has 3 zone climate control. I think They're doing it themselves. Is SeaChest the same as Sintes? If so I think that's who they'll use when I need a bottom job next year.

Once they're done with the boat I have to get a slip at South Shore Harbor Marina as I was told there's nothing available at West End or Orleans right now. I think it'll be at Pier 1 at South Shore by Wednesday or Thursday.

I hope to start racing on Wednesdays by the fall once were settled in with the new baby.

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

Here are some pics now that the cockpit of my boat has been cleaned. Still needs the windex system recalibrated along with the compasses and needs the rear A/C adjusted.

This was a daysail I took with my wife yesterday afternoon.

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

U good. Congratulations. Yeah a long waiting list for a slop here, but south shore is actually cheaper so it's cool.

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

JK and Growley,

Thanks! There's not much to do at southshore though, so we sail out and then drive to west end to eat. Kinda a pain. Hopefully something at West End or Orleans will open up, or Municipal will be done soon...

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

That is one hell of a nice 1st sailboat! Was your first car a Porsche 911 turbo?
All kidding aside, congratulations on a wonderful boat!

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

Thanks Panamax, Jim lilbabypenguin and who cares. I agree I think it's a beautiful boat. Thanks for the compliments. Took a little to clean after delivery due to the previous owners neglect. Hard to believe it was in such a condition only being 2 years old.

Biker, the baby came about a week after the boat arrived. The baby is great and we've already taken her sailing a few times. She loves the spacious saloon and sleeps there all the time

Bpotkin, thanks, no Porsche a Mazda RX-7, but my first motorcycle was a Honda Rune. 8 feet long and 800 lbs dry weight. That's what I learned on. Limited on first car due to age and no income . Now I have a 2013 G63 and 2014 ML63 to tote the baby in. Agreed to get rid of the motorcycles to get a baby and a boat

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

What's the asking price for a new one anyway?

Re: Got my First Sailboat!

Panamax,

I bought mine used. It's a 2012. There are no local Jeanneau dealers in Louisiana. Also it depends how you spec out the boat. Base Price is about $240k new but mine was loaded. It has the 360 Dock and Go which is a $25,000 option. It has an extra fridge, teak cockpit with teak cockpit table, deluxe table in the salon that is power and lowers into a double bearth, came with cockpit cushions, Bimini and dodger, 3 zone AC and a 5.5kw Generator as well as many other extras such as forward and reverse electric winches. I was told that new this boat ran about $360,000, but it was used in the boat show so I'm sure the first owner got a discount. If you go to Jeanneau's website, you can spec out any of their boats and choose USD and it will show you how much it will run. Contact a dealer and I'm sure you can get a new one for under MSRP. I took the advantage of a used boat because in Louisiana, when you purchase a used boat for pleasure (no commercial use) you don't pay sales tax. This saved me about $26,000 in tax!!! I'm not sure how it works by you. Good luck with your boat hunt as I was reading your thread as well. Did you get anything yet?
