The operative words are, "I don't know for sure," because, for sure, you don't know. And don't seem inclined to learn.

I think you will find the build quality on the Catalina to be better than you might expect given the various opinions given on these boards. I think the Catalinas that I have been on and owned were every bit as well built as our current boat, the Seaward 25. Ask yourself what other product built in the 60s and 70s (cars, appliances etc.) has such a large percentage of its 40 and 50 year old products still in use today. Yes, maybe the Catalinas aren't in the top 99.999%, in product quality, of those products out there but they are certainly in the top 99%.

Hahaha! Yes, I agree with you. They certainly are in the top 99%.

Of course, that covers quite a bit of ground.

Too bad for you.

LOL, no, just a different reality. Some folks have so much money they just don't know what to do with it so they buy sports teams or expensive yachts. And from the tone of your responses, you don't seem any happier for it.

Saying Pluto is no longer a planet is kind of like saying the earth is no longer flat. Some call trout fishing a sport because when the bears show up to join the fun, one exerts a lot of physical energy exiting the game.

Sailing is like scotch. Some like it neat, some with water and some with ice. It's not really important how one drinks it its important to just drink it.

Sailing. Some people enjoy the cruising life, some like to race. Its an activity that requires a lot of time and grows with experience. To me its a bit of a sport and comes with a lot of scotch.

Enjoy the lifestyle

Well this post has been everywhere. From helpful to insulting, and finally to the definition of a sport.
For us we have put an offer on a 1980 pearson365 sloop.
It will be having its survey with in a few days and if all goes well we will be closing within 2 weeks.
Boats in Miami so we will be quite busy getting her to tn.
Let the fun and expense begin

Then he will sail to MObie and hook up with the Icw. Trying to plan route now. If I can get awa I am hoping to join. Him at least for the coastal part of the journey. Kn ow I can't get away long enough to do the whole trip. Figure at least I could help him go around florida to mobile. Unless we can find someone wantIing to go on a trip

Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

Regarding your route from Miami, you might be better off going up via the ICW to Jupiter and cross Florida via Lake Okeechobee and then dump out into the Gulf at Fort Meyers. The distance is about the same either way, but I can tell you from personal experience the Gulf side of the keys is reef laden, and requires some local knowledge. If you sail the Atlantic side of the keys, deeper water but you will add 100 miles to the trip, minimally. I grew up boating in Florida (now a Chesapeake sailboater with some BVI thrown in). All shades of excellence in my opinion.
