Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

Tn lakes and RI've rs aren't really known for their clean waters. Where we swim we have to shower after so yeah shower would be nice
A means to cook, and a dry cabin and good sails to me are of course a given...not interested in one without those

Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

If you really want to go, you can do it on a smaller boat. Even with 5. But 25k will be a challenge.

Check out McMermaids (blog) for a family with three girls heading over to the Bahamas for a few months. I think Heather and Dan have a 25 footer. No shower, lots of fun.

I personally like the Cat 27 for you, or a Pearson 28.

Good luck!

Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

went looking at a couple marinas yesterday. Not a thing of interest. Checked out a couple 27 feeters, and they are way too small for our crew. Also could really tell the ones loved and the ones neglected.

Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

I think this is the boat for you:
37' Cherubini Hunter cutter rig sailboat, 1980, (Deltaville, VA on Jackson Creek at FBYC)

LOA 37'-6", LWL 32'0", width 11'-0", draft 5'-1", displacement 18,600 lbs, ballast 7500 lbs.

GPS, Chart plotter, Depth/fish finder, autopilot, A/C, refrigeration, inverter.
3QM Yanmar diesel, Campbell Sailor propeller,

Dodger, Bimini, hard bottom inflatable dinghy with Nissan 2.5 outboard. Anchor Windlass, bowsprit with bow seat, folding table in cockpit.

Stereo with cassette and CD, VHF.
Sturdy, roomy, 6'2" headroom inside, fitted BottomSiders cockpit cushions.
Double sink, tile countertop, refrigeration. 40 gallon fuel tank, 2-50 gallon water tanks and Lifesling.

New mixing elbow, throttle cable, charger, battery, impellers, water pump, main power cable, bimini.

Sturdy reef-able main sail and cutter/stay sail, roller furling Yankee jib, asymmetrical spinnaker with Chute Scoop. Coast Guard equipment, PHRF rating 189.

This boat has been maintained but shows some age and would benefit from a bit of TLC. The sale price has been lowered to reflect condition and is firm.

So , I've been trying to find a boat that is good in light wind, yet seaworthy, and with a wider beam (10.5'). The wife wants comfort, I want fun and speed.
We both want hot pressure water, a shower, stove and oven (propane), non cored hull, sloop, dodger, bimini, draft less than 6', diesel engine, setup for single handling in a rear cockpit. All for 25K or less.
I'm getting wrapped around the axle with the D/l and SA/D ratios because I want to be able to sale her on lakes in middle TN. on the weekends. I am thinking the wind is not strong enough here to sail a boat that size unless the ratios are right.
Am I asking too much? Am I misguided in any of my thinking or criteria?
I've been doing so much reading online that I think I'm losing my sight.
Please give your opinions. Oh yea, we have never sailed before.
Dream on. A Catalina 38 will do nicely. We cruised one from L.A. to Mexico and the South Pacific but you won't find one ready to go for 25k. Although we sold ours in Samoa for 25k fully cruise ready. Check out the sailing specs, she was a great sailing boat. We left home with an Atomic 4, a 20 gallon fuel tank and cruised for 2 years with that. With solar and wind gen we only ran the motor to get out of the marina. They draft 6'9" though. Good luck, have fun.

Yea, we keep hearing that, but I think folks who say it haven't searched much lately. I'm sure they DO need some things, but there are a lot of boats for sale right now that are in pretty good condition for 25K and even less.
Look at the Cheribini above. I don't know for sure, but it seems to be a boat that is pretty much ready to go, and for $14,500.

The size would work(a little big) but I think we're looking for a better quality build than a catalina.

Hahaha! What else would you call spending tens of thousands of dollars to go around the world at four knots? It makes football look like a rational activity. Of course it is sport.

It is certainly not a sport to me.
Too bad for you.
