Free Dinghy Plans (finished product)

On the website bateau.com there is a free download for dinghy plans.
Figured I would share my thoughts about the finished product.

The video shows the finished product. If I were to build it again, I would build out of 1/4 inch for everything to keep the weight down. I made it to heavy. Also, I would got with a seat that goes bow to stern so trip and rowing position can easily be adjusted.

All in all, it is a great dinghy. Tows really well, I was suprised.

Just fyi, really stable, I can stand of the bow of the boat and it stays above the water. (must hold onto something and I only weight about a buck fifty). Here is the link.

I've always admired folks who build their own dinghy. Yours looks very much like my Sabots that I've had in the past and it wouldn't be hard to add leeboard, rudder and mast. Just find an old Sabot and take measurements. El Toro is another you could copy. If you want measurements of where mast, daggerboard etc go I might be able to help you out if I can find my old El Toro plans.
I currently have a stretch El Toro/Sabot that is 11'6" and made of 1/4" ply. I put a pretty nifty skeg on it to help it track.

Nice pram, Looks like the beam is fairly wide making it more stable than the typical pram style.
Here's my Dudly Dix 8 footer I built years ago.

Re: Free Dinghy Plans (finished product)

Beautiful boats guys! Mine is in fact teh d5.

I found an optimist advertised on craigslist today...would be a fun little sialing dink to have around. I'm going to check it out.

I like the el toro better than my d5. Your boat looks to have a bit less rocker than mine.

On an 8 foot boat, I would rather have a flatter bottom, more like the el toro instead of the d5.

winter time is great for building a dingy or getting the projects done.

Re: Free Dinghy Plans (finished product)

Aloha all,
I have a full set of El Toro plans from the association if anyone wants them. I would charge about what they cost. $25. Includes sail, rigging, rudder, daggerboard, mast and boom plans. I bought them many years ago and they are to class specifications for a race ready boat.
Anyone want them?
kind regards,

The opti sold this morning just hours before I called. I would have really liked to pick that one up. It was only 400 with everything
