Re: Florida resident wants to buy used sailboaty overseas

And what about a Canadian resident bying a boat located in Florida directly from another Canadian resident. The boat is a canadian registred boat.

I just contacted the Florida Dept of Revenue to ask about purchases by non US citizens since this area is not clear from what I find on their web site.

According to the person I spoke with non-US citizens do not have the same exemptions that US citizens that are non Florida residents will have IE 30 days to remove the boat from the state before the sales/use tax is owed.

That to me does not make sense but the person seemed quite certain. He referred me to FL regulation Rule 12A-1.007 which covers all boating tax issues. Sorry the link looks odd and may not work but google that rule number and it will take you there.

Make the transaction " 3miles off shore". Sign the papers in Canada.
