Re: First-time boat owner - 41' Rhodes Bounty II

Congratulations on your new home! I know nothing about your vessel in particular, but I do know where to go when I have questions on how to do things right the first time on Haven. Below is a link to a great resource for the how to's of maintaining your sailboat. Maine Sail has been a go to for me especially in regard to rebedding hardware.

Hoping you and Hannah B. are both safe and well after Irma.

My heart is broken. Hannah B was ripped apart by Irma. I survived thankfully.... But she did not. Keel completely torn out, nothing but a deck on the beach.

My condolences. The thing to do is get back on the horse. This isn't the end, it's the beginning.

Bummer... hope you find an equally good replacement. You might want to checkout the Plastic Classics group...

Thank you all very much for your condolences. Currently working on saving the classic yachts left in Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour - gotta save what I can, not gonna let these babies get crushed.

Sorry to see your dream ended so quickly after it had just begun. Though as the saying goes, as one door closes another opens. With so many boats lost to the storm, I am sure that there will be plenty of opportunities for you to find a new project. Good luck to you and keep in touch.

I am saddened to hear of your loss, but don't let this one event crush your dreams. I know you will come out stronger than before.

Really sorry to hear about that, but hang in there, another old beauty will show up! That really speaks to the fury of a hurricane that that boat was destroyed. Glad YOU are ok!

I feel your pain. Irma killed my lady also. But she wasn't a classic (8 1/2 months old) and much more easily replaced. I'm heading to the boat show in Annapolis this weekend to try again.

Re: First-time boat owner - 41' Rhodes Bounty II

Congrats of finding a Rhodes Bounty! Wonderful boat. They were built by two builders if I remember correctly. The Aeromarine yard boats are more prized for some reason.

One specific maintenance item you should do FIRST, is haul the boat and renew the thru hull fiting and thru hull tube that the tiller shaft sits in. Couple of bounty’s have sunk due to a lack of maintenance in this area. The fiberglass mount cracks over time and the tiller starts working in seaway, eventually opening up and flooding the boat. You can’t get at it under the cockpit sole while underway, so you sink.

Some boats never get this tiller tube check because of the difficulty of accessing the area. Fix this design error and you will have a fine, dependable sailboat for any sailing adventure you could imagine.

Holly smokes, just saw your post about loosing you boat due to Irma. My bad about not seeing the second page on the thread. Missed nit somehow. Very sorry to hear about your loss.

There is another Bounty listed on line at the moment. Needs work apparently, but the price has been reduced dramatically from when it was for sale a year or two ago,
