First Boat and First Project - Advice welcome

Hello

This is my first post on the site. I have recently purchased my first boat a 13 foot long Minisail racing dinghy. My past history has been experience on toppers and has driven me to make a serious foray into Sailing. I will put up some photos of the boat this weekend.

The boat is water worthy but could do with some care and attention. Luckily the gentleman i purchased the the boat from had renewed the rigging so all that needs doing is filling a few small cracks and refreshing the paint.

I would be interested to see what people might think to me using epoxy resin to repair the fibreglass hull. I have done some research on the internet and read this is preferable to use over repair products.

The other advice i would need is over paints. This is a dinghy that sits out of the water so if anyone could advise me as to what paints would be best i would be greatful.

Welcome to the forum...pictures of the cracks you'll be repairing will be helpful.
LPU (linear poly urethane) paint is fairly common for boats...like most paints, getting the prep right makes a big difference in the quality of the finished product.

Hi James

Thanks for the reply i certainly will as i will take all the help i can get. Thanks for the tip on the paint i will look into this. Would you know of any specific brands that are popular?

Plan so far for the boat is to sand everything down, repair the cracks then paint.
