Smile Finally . . . We Own Our First Sailboat

After a long search, the admiral and I took delivery of our first sailboat. She is a Morgan 382 and we have her in Oriental, NC. The survey went well and resulted in only a short list of recommendations.

We are looking forward to sailing in the Pamilco, Oriental, Ocracoke areas for now then further adventures.

Re: Finally ... we own our first sailboat

Thanks! We are very excited. We looked at so many boats (over the past two years) that looked great on the internet but not so much in person. Then there were the "dream boats" that were not in the budget. When my wife walked onto this boat, she said "I really like this boat!".

She has a 6 ft draft instead of the normal 5 ft so we have to be a little more cautious. However, she points very well. I'm ordering her a new chartplotter and sounder this week.

The other great thing is all the nice people we have met at our marina. It's been great so far. Lot's of fun adventures ahead.

Re: Finally ... we own our first sailboat

My first boat was a Morgan 32, really nice. I've seen the Morgan 38's, built strong yet simple. I'd be a bit concerned about 6 ft draft on this side of Florida but shouldn't be as much of problem on the east coast. The 32 drew 4 ft and my current boat draws 5, which can still be a bit of a problem over here. All in all, I think you made a fine choice and will be very happy with her. Congratulations.

Welcome fellow Morgan owner! It's a great looking boat and Morgans are built like tanks. Which marina are you at and where do you plan to cruise her?

MJ,
We are located at Sea Harbour just outside of Oriental. We will stay in the Pamlico to start with until we learn the characteristics of the boat. We already have a trip to Ocracoke planned and also a trip in July to Cape Lookout.
Lots of fun times ahead and lots of tweaks to make to the boat. One step at a time.

Which Morgan do you have?

Boatman,

I just met Alan of Sailcraft. I had my boat hauled out for the inspection there and decided to go ahead and have the cutless bearing replaced. On my boat, you have to drop the rudder to gain access to the bearing. Sailcraft is one humming yard. I believe it is the only one in the area that allows owners to do work in they yard. Consequently, it is packed with activity and interesting people. I'll definitely tell Alan you said "Hello". I need to go by there and drop off my old alternator and have the diode replaced.
