That's the plan for now. Just get it repaired so the boat is useable. Eventually I'm going to put an aluminum stick on her, but for now, I'm gonna use what I got.

And here's a pic her. S/V Cygnus

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

Congratulations and good luck with your new boat. The Tayana 37 has been around for awhile and crossed lots of oceans, quite roomy as well with decent storage. Wood mast is not that hard to deal with if you find a good carpenter that can do scarf joints. Check around the spreaders as this is an area that often goes. Have fun!

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

Congrats, I almost bought one about 2 years ago, for 20k, but after the survey I backed off, just needed too much, the T37 was #1 on my short list, just couldn't find the right one, for me,you got yours for a good price, no teak decks big plus, the one I almost bought had them and so much of the deck core was so bad I would have to replace all of it. Fantastic boat, the T37, congrats again.

Congratulations! Since the mast and bowsprit are the same age check all over the bowsprit for rot too.
She looks like a great boat.
kind regards,

Actually they're not. The bowsprit was replaced in 2011. But the boats been neglected since then.

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

Kevin, congrats on your new boat! I've been doing a similar refit on another Bob Perry boat, a Baba 30. I wish I could have found a T37, should have probably held out, oh well... You're fortunate she never had teak, the entire balsa core of my deck was turned to mulch due I believe to the screwed down teak decks. Hopefully you will only have small areas to deal with. If you're interested I have a Flickr page with lots of pictures of the project I can share with you. Good luck!!

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

I favor double-enders. And the Tayana 37 is a very attractive and practical, go anywhere boat. Surely one of Perry's best. Congratulations!

On the mast rot, you can scarph in a new piece of wood, in order to keep the total repair cost down. This should be done by a pro. Minimum scarph length must be 8:1, IIRC. Though I have heard of some builders using 12:1 as a minimum (length to thickness).

She is definitely a project boat, but we have already made an appointment to visit her again.

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

Nice. Nothing wrong with a project. Mine is. What I'm doing is concentrating on what she needs to get her out of the slip and sailing first. This way i can get enjoyment out of her while working on her.

Re: Finally Got My New Boat

Can't think of another boat I'd rather put some rewarding work into more than a Tayana 37. Congrat's!
