Ahoy John and Daddles, thanks, I hope it turns out ok, but he has been cruising as of 5 days ago, just finished a 1 month captained charter in the Andaman sea.
Defects are
replace dripless seal, has spare
hart inetrface is charging gel batteries .2V too high.
wind genny needs new diode, has spare
rudder post lets in a few drips of water in big followind seas
one window leaks slightly
wires for new instruments leak through hole in companionway top, silicone
install new 500 watt inverter, ready to go
broken throttle cable on 8hp yammy, has spare
new /check zincs on haul out, 1 yo
1 coat of antifoul, 1 yo
connection to rpm metre is intermittent, at back of alternater
sew up velcro on top of boom bag

My list
fit davits and surf board racks
remove and store pacific wind pilot
fit another solar panelfit interphase forward looking sonar
fit solid state relays for alarms for engine, radar, depth and forward looking sonar
fit car dvd player with blue tooth
fit sat phone
etc etc.... until all the money is gone?



Thats all that was discovered and disclosed, see the rest on haul out?

she sure is solid and very well maintaned by the 15 years German owner.

Sounds great Keith, hope the survey goes well and no surprises, I gather you are staying up where the boat is for a while. What are your long term plans?
we are back on the mooring with a crook CV coupling that has only done 14 hours work, We had been negotiating with the manufacturer for the last 6 weeks for a replacement prior to heading out, only to have to "check the installation" twice and then they wanted it checked a 3rd time, It "can't" be the fault of their coupling. At that time I emailed back sarcastically " What a PR coup for them" and the fact we were 12,000 miles away "so who cares". Well within 24 hours a replacement was on the way. Hope it is better than the original one.

The brand is Python Drive, but the part that failed is a bought in one and probably made in the same factory as the ones Aqua drive and other manufacturers use.
What surprises me is that apparently these couplings are not the holy grail I thought they were and can suffer from various ailments that you don't see in the automotive world where they are exposed to much harsher conditions. That they must be misaligned to work properly is a given, from around 1.5 degrees up to a max of 8 degrees depending on shaft speed. On the experience I've had so far I would not consider doing another installation.

Ahoy steve, I am back in Margaret River, WA, now, take delivery of the yacht March 13th. Then do a few changes and sail to Phuket, where my daughter will meet me for a 10 day dive trip through the similans etc, around Easter, then get all the documents for a 6 months western sumatran surfing tour. Leave the yacht in Langkawi over summer.

Sounds like a good plan, I wondered if you would take her back home, But there is a lot of good sailing / surfing up where you are according to my son.
We will be out on the water as soon as the replacement coupling arrives, cruising in the upper eastern side of the North Island. Great cruising area, many islands, bays, etc. etc. Would like to head for the pacific in May, but the economic stagnation here doesn't allow us to amass enough cruising funds just yet.
