Re: Favorite Full Keel
OK, what are you referring to when you say "full keel?" If you look at designs by Luders and S & S and Rhodes those fullish keels are often referred to as "long keels" (as are Albergs like some you have been looking at.) Maybe you should google some of their designs to get some variety. Olin Stephens in Adlard Coles' book, Heavy Weather Sailing, advocates a displacement to length ratio of between 300 and 400, and was not too complimentary of boats over 400 for being way too heavy. But what are you shooting for? Full keel as a means to sea-worthiness, tracking ability, sea-kindliness or a comfortable motion? Most people don't want to go slow on purpose... well some do, but as a rule, not so much.

Re: Favorite Full Keel
Most of my full keel is love is because my first S/V was a International IF Folkboat. She was a fun boat to sail. And was very sea kindly and had a wonderful motion to her. I loved the IF I didn't even have to reef her until it hit 25 knots.

Ah, ok, well now that is different... sounds like the "long keel" to me! It's a similar love that attaches me to my long keel S&S design, but in 29 ft. Rhodes had some nice ones, I am quite partial to the Rhodes 41 (Pearson) though no one has yet invited me to sail one yet... Charley Morgan has some nice early designs too, Perhaps a Columbia 38 or rarer the 39 (Constellation?) Or to S&S, how about the Hughes 38 (skeg w/rudder on that one)? Pearson Vanguard (Rhodes) is a little smaller at 33. Or the Grampian Classic 37, that's a nice one too, S&S design. Anyway, I think those may be a few in the genre you are seeking....

cheezwhiz that is probably enough for now.

Cape George cutters, full keels are not my thing but if I was going to own one it would be a CG.

Re: Favorite Full Keel
Lyle Hess is my favorite full-keel designer: check out his Falmouth 34. Bear in mind that there's more ways to screw up a full keel design than to get it right. Some get too much volume and become pigs, like the Westsail 32 and the Little Harbors; others have a keel that's "full" only in the imagination of the marketers, like Island Packet or Hans Christian. Unfortunately, emotions run hot in this matter, so it's hard to discuss objectively (whaddaya mean my boat's not a full keel? I sailed it across the Pacific!), but if you stay with designers like Lyle Hess and William Atkin (I know people think he designed the WS 32, but someone ruined his plans on that one), and avoid their canoe stern models, you'll find some of the best examples of full-keel design.

Nice.
The Bristol 27 and Contessa 26 have similar long keel designs (but are under his 30' cutoff point)

Re: Favorite Full Keel
My former boat- Luders 33- was a really sweet sailing boat. Surprisingly fast in light airs

Why avoid the canoe stern models?
Thanks

Re: Favorite Full Keel
There are at least two 37' copies of an IF: one made in Sweden (Fantasi 37?) and another made in the UK (Rustler 36). Cape Dory 36 and 40 are also very much alike.
But a nearly 40' full keel boat is already a hell of a boat.
My friend has a bcc and much as she is tiny down below, this boat has all it takes.
And if I were ever to go bigger, I could consider something like:

Cheers,
