I assure you, no 34 millionaire is going to be dogging around in some dark, cramped, dated looking, shinny tank of a boat. At least... I've never met one.

I posted sailboats I would be interested in if I came into big money, that is the point of this Fantasy Sailboat post, there is no wrong answer, my picks are based on the original question.

My dream boat would be a Atlantic 57 Catamaran, but given the above I didn't want to go there.

Indulge me...

I didn't note the size requirement originally. But I don't think in that size range extreme luxury is possible.

Trust me or not - the 62CS was designed and constructed to be sailed by a couple, with children or occasional guests only

This is this yard philosophy - only 72 CS is a little out of envelope

I never understood the mentality of buying such a large boat that you need to bring crew along for the ride.

My wife and I much prefer to be alone. Always having 3 or 4 crew members around would kinda defeat the purpose of sailing for us.

If I really wanted a large vessel with crew I would charter one and invest the balance I saved in future rentals.

I certainly would not want anyone knowing I had any money. Everyone is then out to get you. They either want to steal your money, kidnap you, or kill you - just because. Other rich people get off at ruining other rich people just because they are jerks.

Is rather just be anonymous.

Did I miss a restriction specifying no crew? Why restrict yourself? Of course, most of us would prefer to be on our own, but it would be nice to have someone doing the cooking, cleaning & fixing when the boats get big(er) and has more systems.

Don't you think having 'servants' would take a lot of getting used to? Having just finished a stint in management I know having employees takes a lot more effort than I thought it would and I would think having people who's job was to look after you on a small boat would get pretty nerve racking after a while.

I'd probably leave that until I am too old or too lazy to look after things myself...

The world is changing and so are the boats

About fifteen - twenty years ago the boat of about 45 ft was considered large and something about 52 - 54 ft was a maximum for a couple to handle.

But it is not a case any longer.

With all the available systems, back-ups, redundancies and so on, You can have now the boat of 60 - 70+ feet easily sailable by the couple.
Of course such a boat is quite power hungry, but with gensets becoming lighter and more reliable, developement of dependable wind and water generators and highly efficient solars the power generation is not a problem and big boat allows for large battery banks for storage.
With rollers for main, jib and even Code 0, two way power winches, autopilots and so on the real problem is not boat handling, but the acreage of the deck to clean

In Europe the new one, basic specification, anything between 100.000 and 500.000 Euro (VAT not included) - depending on the make.

So to meet that the boat probably doesn't have pumps, batteries and all the things they power, refrigeration, engine, sails

I would guess a very high end one of those could be had for less than $10,000
