Re: Fantasy Sailboat

Fantasy?

One boat is never enough.

So I would spend that $34 million on years of chartering a wide variety of yachts of different types and locations. I would pick the most interesting skippers and boats and enjoy sailing with them in the places best suited for their boats and style.

While some of these would be short term charters, the memories would last a lifetime and would be amazing experiences.

Maltese Falcon for the Caribbean. Would be fun to take friends.

Seal for the Arctic, with the cruise of the Northwest Passage.

Hugo Boss for some fast times with Alex Thomson skipper.

Alvin (or something similar with bob Ballard or James Cameron or some deep sea adventure) to do some exploring.

Russian icebreaker for the Northeast Passage, with lots of caviar and vodka for the crew.

Open 60 with Sam Davies to round Cape Horn as fast as possible.

Endeavour J Class yacht for race week.
J Class charter yacht ENDEAVOUR — Luxury Yacht Charter & Superyacht News

Adele with crew for fantastic luxury sailing. Exploring with Adele

That is what I would enjoy.

Hinckley Bermuda Yawl.

The money is not to cover the purchase price, but the quarterly maintenance of the bright work!

Re: Fantasy Sailboat

My dream boat is an Allures 45. Low maintenance and a perfect layout for cruising, especially with the aft workroom/lazarette. Plus you can beach it or dry it out flat: draws less than 3 feet with the board up.

Unless you wander into two other territories... One belongs exclusively to Nordhavn... The other to the 100m superyachts and beyond

Lots way better then Nordhavn , Doggersbank for example or any of the high end Dutch steel

Quit buying lotto tickets...Its a tax on the mathematically challenged !

You have to shop in Europe to find a real nice sail boat, North American boat builder days are long gone.

Hey that's what I said to the nice lady who sold me the ticket. "Just paying my hidden taxes..." Don't worry, it's just a once a year indulgence

It's looking like that is mostly true. Apparently N. American rich folk prefer powerboats... But boy, my list of eye-candy has grown exponentially from this thread!

No, they actually have enough sense and money to keep their expensive toys overseas... Besides there's more to see and do outside the USA.

With the exception of maybe Newport, RI and some cities in Florida, you really don't see the Super yachts and Mega yachts that you see elsewhere. Here in Sardinia, I'm next to an anchorage that currently has over 75 super yachts, all well over 150ft and up to 400 ft all here at the same time... And this is only one anchorage in the Med. You never see this in North America. They have Dinghies that cost more than my boat. One yacht named "Ace", has a 200ft tender toy box named "Garcon 4 Ace" that just totes around the water toys and helicopters for the mothership.

Re: Fantasy Sailboat

I recommend a 1976 Bayliner Bucaneer. Sure, the boat sucks, but just think about how much you'll have left for some really good bourbon!

Re: Fantasy Sailboat

I play the mental "what if I won the lottery" thing a lot. My votes for the boat (for a couple) are:

Waterline 50
Passport 485/515
Morris 48GT/52RS
Lyman Morse 55

some of you need to learn to dream better
