Re: Fake Boats?
Can't argue with that statement. I guess thats had an effect on sports bikes as they really are track friendly. Whats really going now are the Adventure Touring bikes, the V-Strom being on the bottom rung of that ladder and the BMW1200GS at the top.

I ride with a friend who has the Beemer, used to have a Strom. Sometimes he waxes nostalgic about his Strom. V-Twins have a certain feel....

Re: Fake Boats?
I owned 3 Stroms so like you I really like them. Very hard to beat for the buck but motorcyclists have a habit of liking change for change sake and its not uncommon for guys to be trading different bikes on an ongoing basis.

There is nothing better than getting a leg over and Italian twin
I had the first generation Ducati Multistrada. It was a a fantastic bike, great handling and comfortable.
The GS/Strom/Multistrada style bikes make great tourers for the alps. I had much more fun on my Multistrada on the Passo del Stelvio than when I rode it on my ST2 which is a more "traditional" sportstourer

Looks like fun!
But getting the leg over on Italian twins? I'm a married man!

Re: Fake Boats?
I doubt many of us can get a leg over that luggage carrier.

Re: Fake Boats?
I've wanted a Duk for years, but now I'm trying to save for a boat, so I guess I'll never have to learn how to adjust Desmo valves

I would not expect a "race around the buoys" boat to put up with bouncing on her keel. However, I would not start around the world with a boat that I didn't have confidence would do that without any damage other than cosmetic.

Re: Fake Boats?
My priorities are sea worthyness, comfort, fish hold, speed. I look at the vessel as my home for long periods time over uncertain circumstances, I want something that will meet those criteria first. As far as speed goes, if I can get 7 knots per hour on a good day, I'm okay with that.

Only when I'm working... otherwise I'd rather take it easy...

I crewed on a Dufour 34 or so. A very good boat as I recall. The owner was often reminding us to "don't bend the boat."

Re: Fake Boats?
Let me rephrase that, 7 knots on a broad reach is just dandy. Most days 5 or 6 is plenty. My last fishing boat went about 6 knots, at slack tide, 5 knots against the tide, and 7 with the tide. If I wanted to push it I could make one more knot per hour at double the fuel consumption. Under sail, 5 or 6 is plenty if I am on my own, and my own boat.

How about a threesome with an Italian twin and a Swedish blonde?
I dumped my ride a couple of months later. I then sold my Ducati the following summer

Re: Fake Boats?
Love Ducatis but cant afford one and a boat too, sooo my trusty Connie will have to soldier on, fortunately I do have a good friend who has the spare funds to buy cutting edge toys. His 996 has a lot of custom work done to it with a number of the race kit parts on it and is an absolute hoot. I have to grab my pant cuff to help bend my knee enough to get it on the peg but once going it's an absolute rush, too bad you can't even begin to touch it's performance on the road.
There are a lot of really good bikes out there for short money, I really don't know what I'd buy if I had the cash but don't have to stress too much since all my funds are going to refurbing the new/old step off boat. I get to ride his collector bikes, he gets to join us sailing when our schedules cross, not a bad trade off.
