Experiences with Jeanneau 43 DS

We're (that is, me and my love) looking at boats for liveaboarding, and the Jeanneau 43 DS (1999 to 2003 range) strikes us as extremely roomy and in general well designed (speaking of interior). We're both green as shrubs, more or less, when it comes to sailing.
If anyone have any experiences with this type, knows of a good review of it, have knowledge about any production issues at that time, etc etc it will be much appreciated.

Also, if you know of similar models, that are deck saloon sailboats (center cockpits with roomy afts are nice too), where you can actually see outside, we'd love to hear of them. This particular Jeanneau model is one we have fallen in love with, but we're always looking for other options. (P.S. please don't start a discussion of production vs. classical HB boats. I think I've read them all, more or less

Re: Experiences with Jeanneau 43 DS

I had an ex-charter 2002 43DS in the Caribbean and, despite having 'upsized' since then, still get a twinge when I go below in one as it is a well-designed boat and was perfectly suited to cruising the Caribbean (or Med, or elsewhere).

The surveyors said that this model suffers from a bit of settling in the compression post, but nothing major.

Watchout with the compressionpole! A lot of these boats suffer from this. The windows will start leaking and the deck can crack. Also the rigging will become loose with all the dangers.
Repair is not that difficult. Remove the mast and compressionpole. Open up the mastsupprt on the keel. reinforce with fiberglass and resin.
We have done mine earlier this year.
By the way, your insurance should pay for this.
